Kakia Petinou is a Professor of Speech and Language Pathology and chair of the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, School of Health Sciences, Cyprus University of Technology.  She is also a founding member of the International Association of Communication Sciences and Disorders (IALP) and the chair of the Autism Spectrum Committee (ASD) within IALP. Prof. Petinou is the founder and director of the Language Research and Rehabilitation Laboratory (TheraLab). Moreover, she is a registered member of the Association of Speech Therapists of Cyprus and in 2010-2013 she served as its president.  She holds a PhD in Speech and Hearing from the City University of New York Graduate Center, USA, with a specialization in developmental psycholinguistics. Her research interests lie in language development with a particular focus on children who exhibit language challenges, such as late talking, Developmental Language Disorder, Childhood Apraxia of Speech, Speech Sound Disorders and Autism Spectrum Disorder. She is also interested in the development of valid and effective tools for detection, evaluation, diagnosis and intervention of speech and language disorders.
